How often does the carbon fiber filter need to be replaced in the process of industrial wastewater purification?

In the process of industrial wastewater purification, the replacement cycle of carbon fiber filter element is not a fixed value, which is affected by many factors, and usually needs to be comprehensively judged in combination with actual working conditions. The following are the key influencing factors and common replacement reference ranges:

First, the core factors affecting the replacement cycle

Concentration and properties of wastewater pollutants

If the concentration of suspended solids (SS), organic matter, grease and other pollutants in wastewater is high (such as chemical and painting wastewater), the filter element will be blocked or saturated with adsorption quickly, and the replacement cycle may be shortened to 1-2 weeks;

If the wastewater is pretreated (such as grid and sedimentation tank) and the pollutant concentration is low (such as cleaning wastewater in electronics industry), the replacement cycle can be extended to 1-3 months.

Filter flow and running time

High-flow continuous operation (such as 24-hour uninterrupted treatment) will accelerate the loss of filter elements and replace them more frequently;

Under intermittent operation or low flow condition, the load of filter element is small, and the cycle can be extended appropriately.

Material and specification of filter element

Different carbon fiber filter elements (such as PAN-based and viscose-based) have different pollution resistance, and the pore size, length and surface area of the filter element will affect the pollution tolerance, and the filter element with large pore size and high specific surface area is usually more durable.

Operating pressure change

After the filter element is blocked, the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the system will increase significantly (usually when the pressure difference reaches 1.5-2 times of the initial value), so it needs to be replaced in time, otherwise it may lead to increased energy consumption or equipment damage.

Second, the regular replacement reference cycle

Heavily polluted industrial wastewater (such as pharmaceutical and printing and dyeing wastewater): 1-4 weeks;

Moderately polluted wastewater (such as food processing and mechanical cleaning wastewater): 1-2 months;

Slightly polluted or pretreated wastewater (such as circulating cooling wastewater): 2-6 months.

Third, practical suggestions

Install on-line monitoring equipment: scientifically judge the replacement opportunity by monitoring the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet, effluent turbidity or pollutant concentration, so as to avoid wasting caused by premature replacement or affecting the purification effect by late replacement.

Regular sampling inspection: weekly or monthly inspection of effluent quality. If the indicators (such as COD and SS) exceed the standard, they need to be replaced in advance.

Combined with pretreatment process: adding pretreatment such as sedimentation tank and sand filtration before carbon fiber filter element can greatly extend its service life.

In a word, the replacement of carbon fiber filter should be dynamically adjusted according to the actual operation data. The core principle is to maximize the efficiency of using the filter under the premise of ensuring the effluent reaches the standard and the system runs stably.
